Fresh Oil Devotional, Day 11: Prioritizing the Spirit Over the Flesh

Day 11: Prioritizing the Spirit Over the Flesh

Scripture: For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.” — Romans 8:5

Reflection: To walk in the Spirit, we must prioritize our spiritual life over our fleshly desires. The flesh represents our old ways of thinking and acting, tied to worldly desires and limited perspectives. Choosing to live by the Spirit means setting our minds on the things of God, aligning our thoughts and actions with His truth.

Living by the Spirit requires daily decisions to turn away from the distractions and temptations of the world. Instead, we focus on things that nurture our soul and draw us closer to God. By continually setting our hearts and minds on Him, we allow the Holy Spirit to renew our thoughts, guiding us in love, patience, and peace.

This intentional focus on spiritual priorities enables us to experience life and peace, as promised in Romans 8. By seeking the things of the Spirit, we move beyond the limitations of the flesh, walking in the fullness of God’s purpose for us. Each choice to prioritize the Spirit strengthens our relationship with God and helps us live in harmony with His will.

Prayer: Father, help me prioritize the Spirit over the flesh, setting my heart on things that draw me closer to You. Amen.
