WHO'S YOUR STRONGHOLD?

Updated: Apr 20, 2023

A daily devotional moment by Chris Garcia

Joshua 6:1–27 (NKJV): Now Jericho was securely shut up because of the children of Israel; none went out, and none came in. And the Lord said to Joshua: “See! I have given Jericho into your hand, its king, and the mighty men of valor.  You shall march around the city, all you men of war; you shall go all around the city once. This you shall do for six days. And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark. But on the seventh day, you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets.  It shall come to pass when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, that all the people shall shout with a great shout; then the wall of the city will fall down flat. And the people shall go up every man straight before him.”

Then Joshua the son of Nun called the priests and said to them, “Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the Lord.”  And he said to the people, “Proceed, and march around the city, and let him who is armed advance before the ark of the Lord.”

The walls of Jericho coming down, is a great example of warfare led by the Spirit of God. What we need to understand is what they understood at that time. When the walls of Jericho came falling down, how was it done? The people of Israel were, worshiping before the Lord for seven days. When Israel transition into the Promised Land, what did they do? They brought the priests and the Levites with The Ark of His Presence to the front of the march. The presence of the Lord was their armor. They went forward in the presence of God and the waters were

shifted. When Jehoshaphat did not know what to do, when he was besieged by the enemy all around him, he began to lift his hand and the Spirit of God fell upon them. The message to him was that he should not be dismayed by this great army that is before him. For the battle before you is not yours, it is the Lord’s battle. The way it was commanded of him to fight was in the presence of God. As they follow God’s lead and continued to worship and march forward, the enemy was confused. Why? Because the glory of the Lord is your rear guard. Why? Because the glorious presence of God is the one that fights for you. It is not by might. Not by power. It is by His Spirit. By His Presence. It is by the exaltation of the Name that is above every name. There is power in the name of Jesus. The Scripture says that the Lord is our strong tower. The name of the Lord is a strong tower and the righteous will run into it. Strongholds are broken in front of the true Stronghold of your life. Which is Christ. Did you know that God wants to be your Stronghold? God Himself wants to take residency in your thoughts. God wants to be the center of attention. God wants you to understand the reality that He is the Stronghold. The Strong Tower for the Righteous.
